About Me
Meet Mooch
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1-2 Years
Estimated Weight: 32 Pounds
UPDATE - 11 MARCH 2022 (from foster family): Mooch is a happy all the time wiggle butt. He is housebroken, crate trained and good on a leash. He loves human attention, going for walks and has good energy but is not overly hyper. He is calm and a couch potato once he has had attention. He is nose to the ground a good portion of his walk. He is a little nervous when walking near a busy loud road. He rarely barks or howls. He has done well with a toddler and other dogs but does show some jealousy toward the other dogs at times.
UPDATE - 6 MARCH 2022: This happy boy has found himself a foster home! His foster family said he fit in the first day he arrived. Stay tuned for updates!
UPDATE - 19 FEBRUARY 2022: What a fun, happy boy! Mooch joined us for our adoption event today and loved his day away from the kennels! He didn't find his forever home or a foster home, but he had a great time smiling and wagging his tail all afternoon! He is very playful and even got a few belly rubs from some children who were visiting. Mooch doesn't look like a beagle (maybe some Golden Retriever?), but he hopes there is a family out there who will love his happy personality and give him a chance!
UPDATE- 6 DECEMBER 2021: Mooch is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 22 NOVEMBER 2021: What a smile! Mooch is a young beagle mix who is a little on the unsure side but gaining confidence daily. He is good with other dogs. He was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
