UPDATE - 5 APRIL 2024: Zella is doing well in my quiet home. She loves and requires long walks. I haven't seen any problems with other dogs or with men since she first got here, but I think she needs to be introduced slowly. My son's 2 dogs have stayed with us and she has stayed with them without any problems. She loves my adult son and has been around my 1 year old grandson since he was 2 weeks old. She especially loves cleaning up the Cheerios he drops on the floor. She doesn't do well when left alone so wouldn't be right for an apartment or townhouse. I have not crated her because her front teeth on both the top and bottom are broken off and I am concerned she did it chewing on the wires on a crate or pen. She will need dental work. I asked the vet about getting it done now but she said it should wait as Zella is using her nubs she has left for chewing. She is always ready for a snack. She's an early to bed early to rise girl.

UPDATE - 16 JUNE 2023: If you're looking for a dog that's just for you Zella might be a great match. She is fine in public with other dogs but can be a bully when they stay over, so I do think it is better if she is an only dog. She has a lot of energy and is always curious. She captured herself a vole in the backyard, and it went under the fence and she's determined to figure out how it got away. She loves to go in the car, so we go somewhere to walk every day. She is good except when we go on wooded trails and she catches a scent of something, like the true hound dog she is. She has beautiful tic marks across her shoulders. Her tail is always wagging except when she sleeps. She has a very comforting snore when she's tired. She will fill up your day if you need company.

UPDATE - 9 MAY 2023 (from new foster mom): Zella will be interested in every thing you are doing if you share your home with her. She likes lots of slow walks. She loves children but has big basset hound feet and jumps on new people, which we are working on. She loves her stuffed toys and loves it when I throw them down the hallway to play fetch. She sleeps in the bed with me. So far she loves everybody, people and dogs. She was frightened of the only cat we've seen. She loves to go in the car. She is a really fun dog to have around if you can appreciate her enthusiasm. She did stand on the sofa and bark out the window when I left her home alone. I think she really wanted go with me and was telling the whole neighborhood I left her.

UPDATE - 16 APRIL 2023: Good news for Zella! She is back in a foster home where she gets to enjoy being an only dog! Let's see how she does.

UPDATE - 25 MARCH 2023: Zella is such a sweetheart, but we have learned that she prefers women and needs to go to a home with just women. Some of our beagles are just picky! We don't have a foster home for Zella right now, so she is back to living at our private kennel.

UPDATE - 12 FEBRUARY 2023 (from foster mom): Zella is a gentle, affectionate beagle/Bassett mix who loves people and just wants to be loved in return. She is definitely a couch potato (she has the cutest doggy snores!) but walks well on a leash and definitely enjoys being outside. Zella is great with kids, too. She and the prior foster's female did not get along, so Zella would do best as an only dog or maybe with a male. She is housebroken, too!

UPDATE - 4 FEBRUARY 2023: Zella went off to a foster home today! Stay tuned as we see how this beagle girl adjusts to being a house pet.

UPDATE - 6 DECEMBER 2022: Zella is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.

NEW - 25 NOVEMBER 2022: Zella is a new BREW beagle girl who is super sweet, friendly and good with other dogs. She was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.
