About Me
Meet Amira
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years
Estimated Weight: 32 Pounds
UPDATE - 14 JULY 2023: Foster dogs come and go, but there has never been one like Amira. She has progressed from being a shy and scared girl to venturing boldly throughout the house. Amira is a loving girl with both her beagle friends and her humans, sensitive to their needs. She LOVES to play! Amira is a smart dog who likes to go on adventures in the car and to explore new places. Meet Amira at adoption day Saturday 7/15.
UPDATE - 16 JUNE 2023: Amira is simply beautiful. She appears to float across the yard when she hears you call "Mimi!!" She loves walks at night so that she can look up at the stars and the moon. Ever the romantic, Amira is a great fan of Roxy Music, but she does not like watching television. The resident dogs are smitten with Amira and the feeling is mutual. She seldom barks, but Amira does not like staying alone in the house so will do best with another dog present or a human around most of the time. She will require a person committed to winning her trust. And there's more! Amira is fully housetrained.
UPDATE - 3 JUNE 2023 (from foster family): Amira enjoys living in a house, immediately making herself comfortable on the couch or the dogbed. She gets along well with the resident dogs, and none of the usual household noises bother her, but she is quite wary of the humans present. Amira walks like a little princess on the leash and will stay quite close to the person on the other end. She goes pee and poop while on the leash; so far we have had no accidents indoors. Amira did not enjoy bath time and actually moaned in distress during the rinse. Stay tuned for Amira's progress living with humans!
UPDATE - 29 MAY 2023: Good news - Amira has found a foster home! More soon from her new foster family! How can anyone resist that beautiful coloring?
UPDATE - 21 JANUARY 2023: Amira is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption. Our kennel manager says she is sensitive and submissive.
NEW - 7 JANUARY 2023: Amira is a taller beagle girl (maybe some blue tick hound in there?) who is a little submissive but good with other dogs. She was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
