About Me
Arnie
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1-2 Years
Estimated Weight: 21 Pounds
UPDATE - 19 JANUARY 2025 (from foster family): Arnie is the sweetest little boy. He’s only been living in his foster home for a week now but has made huge strides to adjusting to home life! His personality is so kind, sweet, playful, and just an all around joy to be around. He loves a good nap on the couch with you, blankets, walks, and tv- he truly watches tv and jumps up when dogs appear on screen and he hears them bark! He loves his food and tasty treats just like every beagle, which makes him a great student during this learning process. He really enjoys his walks and is super excited for all the smells and scents outside. He has gotten really good at walking on a leash straight, but we’re still working on his pulling- he’s a strong little fellow. He pulls at times, especially if he hears a loud noise that startles him, but it’s getting better with each new walk. We don’t have much insight into his behavior around other dogs yet. It’s been very cold outside and, as a result, very few other dogs have been outside walking the neighborhood. He has seen a few dogs from afar and seems very interested in meeting them. He keeps turning around looking at them and wagging in excitement.
Arnie's housebreaking has been good so far. He’s had only two small pee accidents during this transition period because we likely missed his potty signal. But he’s had many days without any accidents and he keeps his crate clean as a whistle. He is still skittish around loud sounds, sudden movements, and his own reflection through glass at night- but with noticeable improvements. Because of this he doesn’t like squeak toys yet, but he does have a rope toy he’s played with some. He is crate training and is super quiet and happy to be in there during the day. At bedtime he may cry briefly for 2-3 minutes but settles right down after. With each new day he is becoming more comfortable and confident, which has been wonderful to see. He is the sweetest little guy and just loves a good belly rub and warm place to lounge!
UPDATE - 11 JANUARY 2025: Arnie is now in a foster home, so stay tuned as we learn more about this cute guy!
NEW - 28 SEPTEMBER 2024: Arnie is a sweet, mild mannered beagle boy who is friendly and good with other dogs. He was a stray at the Amelia County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
