Zola
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 7-8 Years
Estimated Weight: 33 Pounds
UPDATE - 19 NOVEMBER 2024 (from foster mom): If you are looking for a dog that is affectionate and loves to be with you but doesn’t jump all over you and try to knock you down or lick your face, Zola is for you! If you are working at your desk, she is lying beside you. She loves her human, but she also loves walks, especially a walk around the lake which is a mile of saying hello to all her doggy friends along the way. We did 3 miles the other day, and at the end she was still happily trotting along. She doesn’t have a yard in her foster home and is doing fine with walks alone.
Zola is a communicator and whines or barks when she wants something but doesn’t do endless barking or barking at noises from outside and hasn’t shown any destructive behavior such as chewing. This is an urban area, and she isn’t frightened by cars or sirens or other city noises. Zola is fine with being kenneled (especially if she gets a peanut butter filled Kong) but is also fine having the run of the house. She isn’t particularly interested in toys or playing fetch but would rather go for walks filled with lovely (or not so lovely) scents.
Zola isn’t a nervous dog and seems happy with men, women, and children alike. She is not a lap dog but likes being either at your feet or beside you. I think Zola would do well in a house with kids, cats, or other dogs but would be also fine without them. She visited a doggy friend’s house and met a (very chill) kitty and did fine with her. She was friendly without chasing. Although Zola does want to say hi to all the neighborhood dogs, she isn’t interested in chasing and roughhouse play, so a resident dog that isn’t too rambunctious would be best. Meet Zola and see what a sweetheart she is!
UPDATE - 23 OCTOBER 2024: Zola is settling in nicely and doing well in her new foster home. Here is an initial report from her foster mom:
Zola enjoyed a trip to the farmer's market this weekend and got some wonderful attention from a little boy there who fell in love with her. She knows sit, shake, and lie down (see video, Zola Knows Sit! ). She walks nicely on a leash, has had no accidents, enjoys car rides, and is friendly with everyone, but she especially loves meeting up with other dogs.
UPDATE - 19 OCTOBER 2024: Zola came to our Adoption Day today. What a beauty! She did well at the event and caught the eyes of several potential adopters. She is now in a foster home, so let's see how she settles in.
NEW - 12 OCTOBER 2024: Zola is a sweet female beagle who was found abandoned on a country road and was never claimed. She is friendly, quiet, gets along with other dogs and mainly keeps to herself. She likes to lay in the sun. Zola is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
