About Me
Bordeaux
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 3-4 Years
Estimated Weight: 27 Pounds
UPDATE - 7 SEPTEMBER 2025: Bordeaux has now been in his foster home for a few months and is doing very well! He had been a little anxious at first, but that was resolved once we put him on a medication. Bordeaux's anxiety is very manageable. He has turned out to be an incredibly sweet boy. Here is a fun update from his foster mom:
Bordeaux has some questions that need answers: if humans can go outside anytime and sniff the grass and the air, why do they spend so much time indoors? Also if humans can get food any time, why are they not always eating? Also, why squirrels? Adopt Bordeaux and you will be living with a celebrity; as a contestant in the BREW calendar pin-up beagle contest https://www.gogophotocontest.com/brew2026coverdog/entries/612362 But Bordeaux isn't all eye-candy, he will be with you through good times and bad; when the going gets tough, Boo magically appears. He loves body contact and is an excellent listener.
UPDATE - 9 JULY 2025: Bordeaux has had plenty of time to hear about what a good boy he is at his foster home; enough to actually believe it. The more Boo believes he is a good boy, the better he does in the house. He may never have been kissed on the top of the head before, but now he likes it! Boo may have never been tossed a bit of food before or tasted strawberries or tomatoes, but now he loves them. Come meet Bordeaux at the next adoption day, July 19th!
UPDATE - 31 MAY 2025: Having spent more time in his foster home, Bordeaux is showing how much love he has to give and how well-meaning he is. He hates to make mistakes and responds to the slightest correction. Bordeaux also developed a life-long addiction to Honey Nut Cheerios after trying two.
UPDATE - 10 MAY 2025: This week Bordeaux has helped his foster family learn many things. For one, there are numerous cats wandering the neighborhood, and whenever Boo sees one, he leaps into the air and twirls a full 360, all the while baying. He goes full-on space cadet when he spies squirrels on neighborhood walks, too. Boo needs close guarding around open doors, he is always looking forward to a mystery excursion. A slow-bowl is necessary for Boo's meals to last more than one second; his gobbling breaks all records. Boo loves car rides. He tends to be leery of anything new: Boo was sure he saw alien ectoplasm in the backyard but it turned out to be some new balls for him to run around carrying in his jaws. Last night, the sound of thunder scared Boo and he went to foster mom for some reassurance.
UPDATE - 1 MAY 2025: Beautiful black and tan Bordeaux joined us at our adoption event last weekend and went home with a foster family! Here is an initial report from the family:
Bordeaux, aka Honey Boo Boo, will make your life better in every way. He is athletic and airy in gait, transforming every walk into an exercise in beauty. So enamored is he in your cooking that his counter surfing will convince you that your peanut butter sandwich is gourmet. Boo loves everyone he comes across and he loves to play 24/7. The resident senior beagles have had to sternly remind him that rest time is essential; like the good boy he is, he heeded their warning. Boo has a clue about housetraining and has had few potty accidents. With all this energy, he would do best in a home with a 6 foot fenced backyard and a playmate, either human or canine, would be ideal. Boo is equipped with a healthy bawl when he sees a squirrel or decides it's time to come back in the house. He enjoys cuddles and rocking chair time with his foster daddy.
UPDATE - 3 DECEMBER 2024: Bordeaux is now fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
NEW - 23 NOVEMBER 2024: Bordeaux is a black and tan beagle boy who is friendly and good with other dogs. He was a stray from the Madison Animal Shelter in Virginia, so his history is unknown. He is available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
