UPDATE - 11 APRIL 2025: We can't believe it, but Scrappy has not yet been adopted! How can that be? Here is an update from his foster mom:
Scrappy is personality plus with his happy-go-lucky attitude. Always ready to play and run around, this boy is a ball of energy. He loves all dogs and all people. Scrappy loves running in the fenced yard; plus he has been practicing wearing a harness and leash. This pup will bring so much love to a beagle loving family.
UPDATE - 31 MARCH 2025: Snookie has been adopted! Two down, one to go! Scrappy is still looking for his forever home.
UPDATE - 24 MARCH 2025: Cha Cha has been adopted! Time for the boys to find homes!
NEW - 22 MARCH 2025: Catarina and her puppies ended up in a Virginia shelter after they were picked up by Animal Control one cold January day. Catarina was found outside with her new babies, so we're not sure if she had been abandoned. The good news is momma and puppies ended up with BREW where Catarina and her puppies have been getting the care they need. We named the three puppies based on their personalities: Snookie (M), Scrappy (M), and Cha Cha (F). We did a DNA test on one of the puppies, and it turns out they are 57% Beagle, 22% Australian Cattle Dog (smart!), 10% Norwegian Elkhound, 8% Border Collie, and 3% Other.
The three puppies were transported to a foster home last week, and they will be available for adoption on April 15th. Here is what the foster family has to say about these adorable balls of fur and energy:
Snookie (male-mostly brown with some white) is a very social pup. He loves to run, play and roll in the grass. He also loves to be pet and snuggled. Snookie is always the first to greet his foster humans when they walk into the room. His favorite toy is his fluffy duck.
Scrappy (male- mostly white with some brown) is a happy go lucky pup. He is adventurous and loves to explore the yard and enrichment toys. Scrappy likes to be the center of the fun and loves to run and play with his siblings. He loves back scratches. He always reminds his humans if the food bowl is empty.
Cha Cha (female- tricolored) is the smallest but the mightiest of the litter. This girl gives her brothers a workout when chasing them around the yard. Cha Cha loves to play with all toys, but her favorite toy is her stuffed lamp chop. Cha Cha is a sweet girl who loves belly rubs. She is such a loveable pup with personality plus.
Puppies will be available to go home to their forever homes on April 15th. Please fill out an application if you are interested in adopting one of these cuties! They are likely to go quickly!
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
