Gizmo (Gizzy)
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 5-6 Years (Est DOB 1/8/2021)
Estimated Weight: 28 Pounds
UPDATE - 6 JULY 2026: Yay for Gizzy! This sweet boy is finally in a foster home. Here is an initial report from his foster family:
I can’t believe this fabulous doggie hasn’t been scooped up yet! Gizmo has settled into our family like he’s been here all along. We picked him up on 4th of July, and he didn’t whine at all on the 2 hour drive home. That evening, neighborhood fireworks didn’t bother him (he was inside).
He’s eaten great, and he is SUCH a sweet, easy-going boy. He likes to be pet and brushed. He sleeps on my bed and lets me tuck my cold feet under him. He hardly moves all night.
He walks well on leash and comes when he’s called. We’re working on “sit” and “give” to play catch but he brings it back to you easily and catches on quickly. When we came in from being out for an hour, he brought us a toy as an offering. He was perfectly fine in the house alone. No accidents, and he's mastering the doggie door.
The 8 stairs down to the yard are no problem for him, although he doesn’t seem to like our main staircase yet, but he’s working on it. He's also figuring out the steps up to the bed since he's not much of a jumper.
He has such a big heart and would love to find a family with a big heart too. This gentle dog deserves to find his forever home. You won’t be sorry.
NEW - 26 FEBRUARY 2026: Gizmo (Gizzy) was an owner surrender with Flash Gordon when their owner got ill and could no longer care for them. We think Flash Gordon is Gizmo's dad. Both were house trained but may need a refresher since they have been living at the kennels. Gizzy is friendly, fairly mellow and low key, and he does well with other dogs. Gizzy is available for fostering or adopt.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
