About Me

Meet Jelly
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2 Years

Estimated Weight:  33 Pounds
NOTE: Post-heartworm treatment. Needs to be on restricted activity through August.

UPDATE – 21 JULY 2021 (from foster family): True to her name, Jelly is a sweet girl! Check out this cute video! JellyVideo   Since she came home with us a week ago, she has mastered walking on a leash, ignoring the many sounds of an urban environment, riding in an elevator, going up and down stairs, and getting in and out of the car. She was shy at first, but now seems comfortable at home and on walks. We have learned she likes to snuggle on the couch, be where the action is, play with toys and humans, and be with her foster family (she spends time with everyone and has no favorites!) She also took a strong interest in our guinea pig cages, so if there are other small pets in the house, they would need to be out of reach. She loves all people, but can be a bit finicky with dogs. She is very interested in dogs, and likes to watch them from afar. She has been friendly with the dogs she has met, but occasionally wants to bark at certain dogs. We are easily able to quiet her and she continues to improve on her doggie social skills.

Jelly appears to be housebroken and is only in the crate if everyone is out of the house. She seems to like the crate and often naps in it when we are home and the door is open. She is on restricted activity, but on occasion we have seen her take off inside (she is fast!) so she may enjoy a yard where she can run. We can’t say enough good things about Jelly, her forever family will be a lucky one.

UPDATE – 10 JULY 2021: Jelly is now in a foster home. She is available for adoption, but she still needs to be on restricted activity for another 30 days.

NEW – 26 JUNE 2021: This lanky gal is named Jelly. She has been with BREW since late March, but she needed to go through heartworm treatment and is finally ready to move on to a foster home (and, eventually, a permanent home). She finished her final heartworm treatment this month and is now on 60 days of restricted activity. She is a young, energetic girl who was a stray from a Virginia shelter. We think she had recently given birth, although we do not have any information on her puppies. She is a pretty girl who can be a little choosy about her kennelmates. If you are interested in fostering Jelly while she finishes out her 60 days of rest, please let us know!

Q:  Can you tell me more about a specific dog?  Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?

A:  What we know is in the write up.  Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited.  Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.

Q:  Can I meet a specific dog?

A:  We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs.  Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.

Q:  How can I adopt a specific dog?

A:  You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt.  You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there..  It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you.  Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime.  But we are always getting new dogs.   You can see them on our website.

Q:  Can I add another dog to the list on my application?

A:  We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application.  It gives us an idea of what you are looking for.  Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.

Q:  I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted.  What happened?

A:  We do not hold dogs.  Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved.  But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
