Jo Hanna – Adopted January 2021

Jo Hanna – Adopted January 2021

About Me

Meet Jo Hanna
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 2-3 Years

Estimated Weight: 22 Pounds

UPDATE – 29 DECEMBER 2020 (from foster family): Jo Hanna joined us this weekend. She was a bit nervous and timid when we met but did well in the car on the ride home. Once home, JH was anxious about her new outdoor surroundings but did well once inside. She seemed to enjoy exploring her new home. She had a few accidents inside during her first day, but likely related to nerves. We’ve found that she prefers to go to the bathroom in the dog park and not while walking. She seems more confident there with her tail held high. Outside of the dog park, her tail tells the whole story, and she seems more cautious and unsure. She’s easy to walk on a leash and redirects easily. She is a bit skittish when hearing noises and when people approach. She’s also very quick on her feet!

We don’t know much about her history. We aren’t sure if she lived in a house before as she was mesmerized by the TV. She will only eat her dog food but doesn’t seem interested in treats. She also doesn’t make much noise or beg for food. She’s quite content sleeping on her bed in the living room during the day and at night. She’s had such long naps over the last two days. Likely exhausted from her new routine. During the workday, she’s been quiet and visits us while we are working from home. She was just spayed this week and recovering well. She also has an ear infection, which is being treated. She may also need to gain a little bit of weight.

She is very loving and gentle and wants to be petted and loved. She’s just a doll! Jo Hanna also seems to get along with other dogs. She doesn’t seem to know how to respond when they want to play with her. In the next few weeks, we hope her personality will shine through as she’s more confident and comfortable.

UPDATE – 26 DECEMBER 2020: Jo Hanna is now fully vetted and just went off to a foster home. Let’s see how she does living in her foster family’s apartment. She seems like a very sweet girl!

NEW  – 8 DECEMBER 2020: This beautiful girl is Jo Hanna. She is around 2-3 years old. She is friendly but a little uncertain of what is going on. She seems very people-oriented and a little clingy right now as she adjusts to all the changes in her life. She was a stray at the Tappahannock/Essex County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.

Questions?

Q:  Can you tell me more about a specific dog?  Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?

A:  What we know is in the write up.  Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited.  Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.

Q:  Can I meet a specific dog?

A:  We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs.  Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.

Q:  How can I adopt a specific dog?

A:  You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt.  You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there..  It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you.  Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime.  But we are always getting new dogs.   You can see them on our website.

Q:  Can I add another dog to the list on my application?

A:  We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application.  It gives us an idea of what you are looking for.  Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.

Q:  I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted.  What happened?

A:  We do not hold dogs.  Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved.  But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
