Shreya – Adopted February 2021

Shreya – Adopted February 2021

About Me

Meet Shreya
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1 Year

Estimated Weight: 35 Pounds

UPDATE – 24 JANUARY 2021: It’s been a week since Shreya joined our home and we have enjoyed every minute of her! Here’s what she has taught us about her:

She has lots of energy and loves playtime and toys
She is great in adapting to a routine
She’s a quick learner and can sit politely for food and treats
She is very gentle and would likely be great with kids of all ages*
She is excited to see other dogs outside and would likely be good with other dogs in the home**
She willingly goes in a crate and will be calm when left alone at home in the crate for a short time***
She regularly goes outside but has had a few accidents when she was over excited
She can hold it through the night (12+ hours!)
She has shown us her beagle bark and howl when she’s excited but is pretty quiet when she’s not playing
She is so deserving of a forever home that will snuggle and love her and show some patience as she matures into a perfect beagle!

*We have tweens-teens so she has not been observed with young kids but she’s not aggressive, is very trusting and enjoys close cuddles
**We do not have another dog but when she meets other dogs on a leash walk she is excited and not aggressive
***We have left her in the crate without a problem for 60-90 minutes; when left for longer she chewed the plastic in the crate out of boredom/anxiety (after chewing a toy), but she still willingly goes in and out of the crate while we are home

UPDATE – 20 JANUARY 2021 (from foster family): Shreya has made herself at home with her new foster family. In just a few days we have seen what a sweet creature she is. She loves to snuggle and be wherever the people are. Even though she’s young, it’s clear that she has learned some manners and can follow a few commands. She is actively working on learning some new ones, too! She is very gentle and calm, even when there’s a lot to distract her – her foster brother plays the drums, but she doesn’t mind! As a one-year-old, she has lots of energy and enjoys playing with her toys and taking walks. She is an excellent leash walker, too! She is a quick learner with house training and can hold it all night long. She still has some anxiety when she finds herself alone in the room or is a little bored (seeking out things to chew on seems to be her solution, but her foster family is looking for new toys to entertain her). She is definitely tall for a beagle, so her foster family made up this cheer for her:
My name is Shreya
I have big feet
I can jump on the counter
When I want to eat
So check me out!

Next up … crate training!

UPDATE – 16 JANUARY 2021: This long-legged beauty (definitely has some hound in her) is now in a foster home, so let’s see how she does living in a house with a family.

UPDATE – 31 DECEMBER 2020: Shreya is now fully vetted and available for fostering/adoption.

NEW – 8 DECEMBER 2020: Shreya is a gorgeous 1-year-old beagle girl who weighs around 35 pounds. She is super sweet, friendly and appears to be good with other dogs. She was a stray at the Louisa County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She will be available soon.

Q:  Can you tell me more about a specific dog?  Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?

A:  What we know is in the write up.  Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited.  Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.

Q:  Can I meet a specific dog?

A:  We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs.  Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.

Q:  How can I adopt a specific dog?

A:  You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt.  You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there..  It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you.  Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime.  But we are always getting new dogs.   You can see them on our website.

Q:  Can I add another dog to the list on my application?

A:  We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application.  It gives us an idea of what you are looking for.  Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.

Q:  I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted.  What happened?

A:  We do not hold dogs.  Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved.  But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
