Meet Misty
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 4 Years
Estimated Weight: 28 Pounds
UPDATE - 28 NOVEMBER 2022 (from foster family): Misty is a sweet, playful girl who is ready to join her forever family! She's really come out of her shell over the last 6 weeks with us, and we love fostering her.
A few specifics about her personality:
- She LOVES food. I've never met a more food motivated dog in my life. Thank goodness we have peddle operated trash cans!
- She does the cutest happy dance when we feed her dinner. There are lots of spins and twirls. She's basically a dog ballerina.
- Her house training is going well, but she hasn't mastered it. Her adopter will need to continue to work with her to avoid the occasional pee accident. She's mastered "sit" and "paw" and is eager to learn more!
- She LOVES to play fetch and toss soft toys in the air. It's pretty adorable.
- She has great dog manners and plays wonderfully with our 10 month old puppy. They love to wrestle and chase each other all day and have created their own weird language of strange sounds. She seeks out attention from us when she wants it, but is otherwise what I would describe as a dog's dog.
- We have two cats and Misty tried so hard to be friends with them. She gave her best play bow and even tried to share her toys. The cats weren't interested, but I think she would get along well with a dog-friendly cat.
- We don't have kids and can't say how she would behave around children. She can be a bit afraid of new things (including the TV when we first brought her home) so she would need to be introduced slowly.
Don't miss out on Misty!
UPDATE - 15 OCTOBER 2022: Misty went to a foster home today, so we will be learning more about her soon. Here is an initial report from her new foster family:
Misty had a great first night with us. She seems to understand that she should go outside to potty, which is wonderful. She has great doggie manners with both George (who is a giant puppy and always wants to play) and Frankie (who is a cranky old lady and rarely wants to play). She doesn't pay any attention to the cats (unless they run past her, and really who can't resist a good chase?), and is very focused on her people (I have a new shadow!). Here is a cute video of Misty making friends on her first day:
NEW - 25 AUGUST 2022: Misty is a pretty beagle girl who is friendly and good with other dogs. She was a stray at Caroline County Animal Shelter in Virginia, so her history is unknown. She has completed her heartworm treatment and is now available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
