Meet Scarecrow
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: Born 11/9/21
Estimated Weight: 42 Pounds (at 8-9 months)
UPDATE - 25 JULY 2022: Scarecrow is growing up before our eyes! At 8 months, our little 1-pound puppy with an uncertain future is now a healthy 42 pounds and doing very well at his foster home. He is such a good boy, and we hope he finds his forever home soon!
NEW - 10 JUNE 2022: Scarecrow has had quite the journey since his birth on November 9, 2021. He is one of the four Oz puppies born to mom Brielle - seen in one of the pictures. Scarecrow was born with a cleft palate and because of this he, sadly, couldn't nurse. We tube fed the little guy and every ounce was a victory. Transitioning him from tube feeding to kibble - the smallest kibble I've ever seen - was a milestone. He kept gaining weight which was all we wanted - though he was smaller than his siblings. Scarecrow had surgeries to correct the palate defect; the most recent one is still healing. He has caught up to his expected weight - which was expected once he was able to eat normally. The only remnant of the cleft palate is his crooked nose.
Scarecrow loves walks and is a pretty good walker for a boy that is still a puppy. He is calmer than our beagles. He plays well with the other dogs in the house and loves charging around the yard with his mom and brother. He also loves mealtimes and treats and will readily sit for one (or as many as you're willing to share). Scarecrow is pretty much housetrained, though he will occasionally use a pee pee pad. I think he will easily leave behind this habit when he is no longer in the house where he was born (just used to using the pee pads here).
DNA on his sibling revealed that Scarecrow is about 50% beagle and 50% American foxhound. We guess he will be around 40-45 pounds fully grown. He weighed in at about 35 pounds in late May.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
