About Me
Meet Sylvie
Status: Fostered
Estimated Age: 1-2 Year
Estimated Weight: 24 Pounds
NOTE: Needs another dog in the home.
UPDATE - 6 SEPTEMBER 2022: Sylvie has been in our home for a month now. She is turning into a cuddle bug. Her tail is always wagging and she loves belly rugs. When she's not being a couch potato, she's very playful and likes to wrestle and play with chew toys. Her favorite toy is a no stuffing bunny. She's comfortable with her leash and gets really excited for walks. She's quiet at home and rarely barks or bays.
Sylvie needs another dog in the house. She is much more comfortable with people than she used to be, but she follows the other dogs' lead most of the time. For example, she'll want to go for a walk, but she won't let us put on a leash unless the other two dogs are there with her.
UPDATE - 14 AUGUST 2022: Sylvie's personality is starting to come out. Sylvie has started playing with the other dogs in the house and likes playing with rope toys, balls and deer antlers. Sylvie is curious and eager to meet other dogs.
Sylvie enjoys chasing ANYTHING she sees moving: squirrels, rabbits, deer. She'll bark and bay when very excited (like when we saw FOUR fawns on our walk), but she is overall quiet.
Sylvie is even becoming more comfortable with people! She listens to redirection and is starting to come to us to be petted. Sylvie does best when she's on a regular schedule for walks and feedings.
UPDATE - 6 AUGUST 2022 (from foster family): Sylvie is settling in well at her foster home. She is getting along with our larger dogs. Sylvie is very sweet and likes to snuggle with both of them. She is happy to follow their lead in most things (feedings, walks, house rules, etc.). Sylvie enjoys going for walks and is walking well on her leash. She is becoming more playful and her personality is starting to come out. Her tail is almost always wagging. Sylvie is still unsure of people, but she'll allow us to sit on the couch with her and pet her and handle her. Once she becomes more comfortable, we expect she'll be a very sweet cuddle bug. Sylvie is a sweet, intelligent and playful beagle girl!
UPDATE - 31 JULY 2022: Our lanky Sylvie went off to a foster home today! This is great news since we can now see how she adjusts to living in a house. More soon!
UPDATE - 12 JUNE 2022: Sylvie joined us at today's adoption event. She is so silly! She is timid, so she would slink on her belly through the grass as she approached people for pets. She definitely wants to be loved, and her tail wagged a lot, but she needs to gain some confidence. This was probably her first time on a leash for any length of time. She'll need to get more comfortable with walking on a leash. This lanky girl would probably benefit from having a more social dog in the home. She is very sweet - just needs some work!
NEW - 8 JUNE 2022: Sylvie is a shy girl with some long legs! Her biggest issue is lack of socialization, so she is a little shy around people. You can pet her, and she will come to you submissively, which is a good sign that she wants to be loved, but she needs some extra time and patience. She does well with other dogs and probably would do best in a home with a confident dog to show her the ropes. She was dumped at a Caroline County shelter in Virginia before coming the BREW. She is fully vetted and available for fostering or adoption.
Questions?
Q: Can you tell me more about a specific dog? Is s/he good with kids / housetrained / good with cats/ etc?
A: What we know is in the write up. Our knowledge about any dog that is not in a foster homes is limited. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will work with you to match you with the right dog.
Q: Can I meet a specific dog?
A: We’re sorry, but you must be an approved adopter to meet our dogs. Pre-pandemic, dogs could be met at adoption days, but you still had to be approved to adopt from an adoption day.
Q: How can I adopt a specific dog?
A: You must submit an adoption application and be approved to adopt. You can do that under Adopt – you can also learn about the adoption process there.. It will take about two weeks for an adoption coordinator to get in touch with you. Please keep in mind that dogs that are available now may be adopted in the meantime. But we are always getting new dogs. You can see them on our website.
Q: Can I add another dog to the list on my application?
A: We don’t hold you to the dogs you listed on your application. It gives us an idea of what you are looking for. Plus it will let us know if someone is interested in one of our special needs / hard to place dogs.
Q: I indicated that I was interested in a specific dog on my application, but I see that s/he has been adopted. What happened?
A: We do not hold dogs. Applicants in the queue before you are being approved and may adopt the dog you are interested in before you are approved. But we are always getting new dogs in and your adoption coordinator will help you find the perfect match.
