About Me
UPDATE – 17 NOVEMBER 2021: Susie is making progress in her foster home. She is beginning to trust other people, especially women. She does bay and bark at men, though she eventually settles down, especially if offered a treat.
Susie is still a puppy and has that high puppy energy. She loves playing with toys and will chase balls and toss them in the air to play with (she is a beagle, so she hasn’t figured out how to bring the ball back). She learns quickly, and when walked on her own she listens well while on leash. As an older puppy, she is testing her limits and needs to be corrected about what is and isn’t okay to chew on.
Susie loves playing and being with the other dogs, but she is showing signs that she wants to be the boss. She’s had a couple of scrapes with all of our resident dogs, and now that she’s figured out which one is the current boss, Susie has let her know there’s a new challenger. For the most part, the other dogs are now wary of interactions with her, even though Susie still tries to engage them in playing and cuddling. We’ve started crating Susie at night and when she can’t be supervised. Good news – Susie is crate trained! She is quiet in the crate, and keeps it clean throughout the night. We have not yet crated her for long periods of time during the day, but she has done well for an hour or two at a time.
I think that with time, training, and patience, Susie can overcome her fear of men and strangers. She may do well as an only dog or with a submissive companion.
UPDATE – 4 NOVEMBER 2021: Hi, Susie here! I love my foster family. They have been very patient with me since I’m so scared & skittish of grown ups (kids are interesting, dogs are better). I’m close to one human here – I sleep with her at night, and she gives me treats! The other two are still scary most of the time.
I love to play, go for walks, & eat (I’m really just a big puppy!) I get along fine with the resident dogs, especially the chihuahua since he has as much energy as I do! We’re also sweater buddies. I love to get dressed up! I’ve been a good girl and haven’t had any accidents inside since I learned how to use the doggie door!
NEW – 24 SEPTEMBER 2021: Susie was given up by her owner when no one could take care of her. She came from a hunting background and has one cropped ear. Susie is shy and sweet and needs a home that is quiet. Her new owners will need to be very patient and gentle with her as she adjusts to all the changes in her life. Susie will be available soon.
